It doesn’t seem a huge ask to me, yet every time my mousepad begins to fall to pieces, shedding its fabric skin and spilling its gel guts, I end up buying a random one because there’s no clear good one. Lots are just… there. Can anyone recommend me a good one for games? Adding “gaming” to my “wrist rest mousepad” store searches only adds the horror of anime babes with gel breasts to nestle my hand between....

The Dead Space remake stream will show off a WIP version and pack chat from some of the game’s leads. Also on hand will be some folks from “the Dead Space Community Council, a group made up of some of the franchise’s biggest fans who have been consulting on this project.” Presumably they’ll be saying it’s cool, else they wouldn’t be invited. EA do stress that what we’ll see on stream is “an early prototype of the game and not final in any capacity; it is meant to illustrate Motive’s vision of Dead Space in motion for the community....
The new campaign sends us into a Hell festooned with Union Flag bunting to battle incarnations of Margaret Thatcher. Various demons wear her face, and the whole place is crammed with familar political posters and slogans, wee milk cartons replacing health potions (yes, absolutely the game says you “snatch” them), Silk Cut and Regal King Size cigarettes, and other cultural touchstones. Something it no longer features is Scotland’s own Tennent’s Lager....
One particularly neat trick happened during the Styx: Shards Of Darkness speedrun from early in the marathon. I talked about it a bit more last week, but you can spot the clip right here. Speedrunner “Tohelot” shows off how getting out of bounds in Styx actually allows runners to exploit a set of developer tools in the game. “The database holds all the information about the level objectives and we just go on top of the buttons and press ‘yeah, we did the thing’ and go to the next level,” Tohelot explains....
Skating games are in a weird place. For better or worse, Tony Hawk is still on an indefinite Pro Skating hiatus, and there’s no sign Skate 4 is happening anytime soon. But in the indie space, you can’t really move for bodacious sk8er bois. In one corner, you’ve got Session reviving Skate’s low-angle technicals. In another, Skatebird is bringing back arcadey combo-busting - resurrecting Pro Skater’s breezey tricks by taking the “Hawk” part of Tony’s name way, way too literally....

Resurgence is set in the year 2380, shortly after the TNG film Star Trek: Nemesis, aboard the U.S.S. Resolute. We’ll play through a story about two alien civilisations on the verge of war, switching between two characters along the way: first officer Jara Rydek and engineer Carter Diaz. Though Nexus Mods user kingliamb’s coronavirus mod was first uploaded in May, I only stumbled across it the other day thanks to a post in one of many Stardew Valley groups that I follow. All it does is add a few face masks to the hat mouse’s hat shop - you can see my farmer modelling the blue mask up there - and some very occasional mentions of coronavirus to NPC dialogue....
