The strangeness of Crossfire: Legion’s situation is that you might not recognise it as a spin-off at all. That’s because the series is a big old blind spot for the Western world. Crossfire is an enormously successful Korean FPS that bears more than a passing resemblance to Counter-Strike - all right angles, assault weapons, and de_dust2 - but dwarfs even Steam’s most popular game for player numbers. With 690 million participants across 80 countries, it’s the biggest online FPS in the world....

Playing the latest early access build has left me thoroughly de-psyched, because the new events are thin and far between and the combat I liked has been dumbed down. It’s a curious step back. Each game is still structured around three expeditions, though this time those are tied into a plot thread that persists between runs. I found myself competing against a rival explorer, with the both of us racing to discover an Ancient Stone Slab....

The patch is out now for PC, consoles, and Stadia. For me on Steam, it was a 1.6GB download. Gamedec calls itself a non-combat RPG where you’ll be gathering evidence and doing a lot of talking. As you’d expect, that also means a lot of text. The new demo also shows off quite a selection of different dialogue options and paths available depending on your Gamedec’s skills or history. A bunch are greyed out as unavailable in the demo since you’re dropped in partway through the game with an existing character, but it’s neat to see the choices....

Damsel is of the Brujah vampire clan. Apparently she’s quick-tempered and passionate like other Brujah—and about as subtle as her beret. Courtenay Taylor, Damsel’s voice actress from the original Bloodlines, is returning to voice her in the sequel as well. Paradox also announced a limited Collector’s Edition for Bloodlines 2 with all the swag you usually see in a fancy physical edition, including a statue and vinyl soundtrack. That’ll run you €170/$170 from here....

Great Grey Wolf Sif Absolute chancer, this one. Will deliberately suggest you go somewhere that doesn’t let dogs in then stare at you sadly through the window, pawing the glass. You’ll feel like a monster, go outside, and pour at least three pints into her bowl. Carries an impractically gargantuan sword in her mouth at all times, which is her handy excuse for why she can’t carry her shitting wallet anywhere....

The Malaise update hit the hack ’n’ slash roguelike last night, bringing with it a load of reworks and quality of life changes. But seeing as it’s the festive season, some Christmas-themed outfits have been added too. Get a load of that Snowman in action. Now that’s what I call holiday spirit. You’ll also be able to get your hands on a new weapon, the katana. The patch notes say it lets you “chain a standard slash with a dashing charge attack by holding down the button....

If that sounds weird and unsettling, then know that this is the overall tone for Death Trash. There are piles of flesh growing out of the ground; a character suggests that maybe we are living on a planet full of meat and it’s just bursting out of the soft outer shell of dirt. And the meat is, jointly and sometimes individually, sentient. One of the first beings you meet is a giant Cthulhu-esque tentacle monster made of meat....

“Eight people that have to die to make things right, and thanks to the timeloop, you’ve only got one day to take them all out or the loop resets,” says Bethesda explain. “But the targets are spread out across the island and are often only accessible at certain points throughout the day.” It sounds like the way order in which you approach your targets will affect what they get up to....

The actual running and shooting was never the strongest part of Dishonored or Prey. These are games about picking your way through an environment, either playing stealthily or at least empowering yourself via exploration rather than just weaponry. The Deathloop trailer above has enough invisibility, crouching, and poised knives - not to mention some lovely environment design - to make me feel that it’s in the same lineage as those other games....

I think part of what pushed me over the edge with Deedlit In Wonder Labyrinth is a) I like the Record Of Lodoss War anime and its Dungeons & Dragons-esque fantasy world, b) I really like Deedlit as a character (who wouldn’t with those giant shoulder pads?), and c) I mean, honestly, just look at that gorgeous artwork. If I wasn’t already a little bit in love with Deedlit, this would definitely push me over the edge....

First up, Update 34 will hit the game sometime in April. It will add official modding support (though only on Steam), and will include save game profiles so you can mess around with mods without affecting your main save. They also plan on rebalancing weapons and giving players the ability to rebind controller buttons. Then, Ghost Ship plan on releasing Update 35 a bit later this year in Q3 (between July and September)....
