When Fallout 76 launched in 2018 it was, frankly, Rust’s younger cousin wearing the clothes it stole from Fallout 4’s closet. After two years of updates - quests, companions, factions, and more - Fallout 76 waddles like a Wastelander and quacks like one too. I chatted with Fallout 76 project lead Jeff Gardiner and lead quest designer Brianna Schneider about where the game is headed, and the answer could be out of Appalachia....
In an Xbox blog interview, The Coalition technical director Kate Rayner explained the studio are “not ready to talk about our next game” but they are happy to talk up tech like UE5’s Nanite geometry system (which can pump out squillions of polygons) and Lumen dynamic global illumination system. “You can see the impact of Nanite already in our cinematic tech test, which enables full-quality movie assets to be rendered in real time,” she said....
Nvidia have also introduced a new annual Priority membership plan that will set you back £90 / €100 a year, which works out a fraction cheaper than a rolling monthly subscription. The free membership hasn’t been taken away, luckily, but you’re still limited to one-hour play sessions and ‘standard’ access to GeForce Now’s servers. Priority membership, meanwhile, lets you play for an ’extended session’, get priority access to the servers, and get the benefit of Nvidia’s RTX effects, including ray tracing and DLSS in supported games....
Today’s teaser is a quick one, just a slow zoom on a scary cave and then a few quick flashes inside as we see a gun-wielding character shoot up some bloody beasties in first person. Might it be an outright horror game? Possibly, though Avalanche Studios are better known for action. Perhaps it’ll be a Doom Eternal-esque action run and gun bonanza. In their announcement today, Avalanche say they’re “paying homage to our rich history of open world games” so I suspect that despite the dark, enclosed cave of the teaser we’ll be exploring a larger world in whatever this new game is....

GOG explain in today’s announcement that starting with a “selection of hand-picked” Epic exclusives in a closed beta, they’re going to let folks games buy Epic Games Store games inside GOG Galaxy, as well as games from their own store. Their example screenshot of a store page for The Outer Worlds inside GOG Galaxy notes that “You can install and launch [the game] via both GOG Galaxy and Epic Games Store client”, so it sounds like you can skip using the Epic launcher, which would be a small blessing....

Ed was pleased with the game in his Guardians Of The Galaxy review, calling it “refreshingly old-school.” It’s got bants. It’s got combat that rewards creativity. It’s got a nice Marvel-ish story. To begin with, 343 explain that they’re planning to start a new season of Halo Infinite roughly every three months. As all your online service games do these days, that will bring new content fresh from the farm, new customisation bits, events and all. Halo Infinite will also be running seasonal battle passes with free and paid tiers. Where it differs is that Infinite’s battle passes won’t disappear after the next one launches....
Alien: Isolation, it’s a 2014 first-person horror sneak-o-shooter made by Creative Assembly, of all people. But wait! The studio known for Total War unexpectedly nailed it. It’s too long but and shows too much of the alium, but it’s a good’un alright. Our former Adam (RPS in peace) still said it’s “the best Alien game I’ve ever played” in his Alien: Isolation review. Hand Of Fate 2 is 2017’s dungeon-crawling combination of deckbuilder and Batman-style beat ’em up....
And as it turns out, Dying Light 2’s 500 hour completion time ain’t got nothing on some of our favourite time hogs… Alice Bee My most played games on Steam aren’t really a true reflection of my most played game. Top of the list is Skyrim, at 92 hours. I have presumably seen that opening cart cinematic several times. There’s a surprise entry from the original Mass Effect from 2007, at 40 hours (Mass Effect 2 is sitting comfortably below it at 32, which is apparently the same amount of time I’ve spent playing Disco Elysium)....
Life Is Strange swaps out pausing time for rewinding it, which is better, but still makes me worry about Maxine’s memory banks. I was probably supposed to spend more time thinking about intrigue and teen angst, and I probably did. Doubly appropriately, though, I have forgotten most of this because I made the mistake of playing through Life Is Strange with someone I was desperately and unrequited-ly in love with back at uni....
It might be because it gets things a little too right for its own good. You’re a space admiral thrown into a three way corporate war over some mysterious new technology. The campaign sees you directing a small fleet around a few dozen battles, patrols, spying missions and all that sort of thing. But the main point of it is that combat is focused on controlling huge, mighty, lumbering capital ships instead of a fighter or a swarm of shiftclicks....

It allows you to see the exact moment a person died, letting you use contextual clues and the scene of the crime to deduce the identity and fate of each individual, recorded in your diary....
