Popovich starts by telling me that, for Slime Rancher 2, the studio have completely rebuilt everything from the ground up. So, for fans of the original Slime Rancher, good news! The sequel will effectively be more of the same. But like, a whole lot more, because the world will be much larger and more dense than what you’re used to. “One of the reasons we had to move on from the first game is that we were literally, and I mean literally, reaching the bounds of the world,” Popovich says....

But my favourite thing is the pestle and mortar. Smashing ingredients up (and grinding them into sludge) awakens their properties so they move further on your potion map, like how crushing mint will make for a livelier mojito. And I love it intensely.

The classic side-scrolling Sonic games are part of the remastered collection, which includes Sonic The Hedgehog 1, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and the decent Sonic CD. Would’ve been nice to get some of the Game Gear stuff on there too, but hey-ho. Sonic Mania devs Headcannon have worked on all the separate remasters in the collection, although they clarify on Twitter that Sega are responsible for putting this together as a single package....

Here’s the Sonic Prime teaser trailer from last month: The December 15th release date was reported by IGN alongside an updated description for the show: They also announced that a new teaser for the show would be broadcast today at 5pm PST (Oct 27th)/1am BST (Oct 28th) via the Netflix Twitch channel. I am not traditionally a Sonic fan, but via Netflix (and my child) I’ve developed a begrudging affection for a previous animated series, Sonic Boom....

Secret Club are a not-for-profit reverse engineering group who’ve found a number of exploits with Valve’s software, which they explain in a series of posts on Twitter. Each of these exploits are remote code execution flaws, which Secret Club told me via email gives a hacker “full control over the victim’s system, which can be used to steal passwords, banking information, and more.” Below they show how the exploit can be activated through Steam invites....

Ultramarine lad Lieutenant Titus returns for the sequel, having been transformed into one of those even-bigger Primaris Space Marines but demoted from Captain (presumably due to that whole ‘suspected heresy’ thing). After mowing down Ork boyz and forces of Chaos in the first game, now he’s fighting the Tyranids. He’ll be blasting that bolter and swinging his chainsword, force sword, and thunder hammer everywhere from cities to muddy jungle. While the original game was made by Relic Entertainment, the sequel is coming from Saber Interactive....

You pick fights as you wander through a dungeon, finding cards and battling bads. The fights themselves are quite restrained. Battles take place on four by four grids, at least in the early game, and you only start with enough mana to play three cards. Those can be minions or buffs, and they get up to stuff you’re probably familiar with. Ranged attacks, improving the stats of units they’re placed next to, gaining strength over time....

Spelunky 2 is a tough-as-nails platformer where you descend into a world of procedurally generated biomes. Snakes and moles and pits filled with spikes are out to get you. We have history. It’s not a lot, to be fair. Mainly that I’ve struggled to gain a foothold in the game, in fact, I still don’t think I’ve beaten the first stage. That’s after sending out a call to help, with kind RPS folk sending me pointers and advice, like cook turkeys with bombs and always carry something to set off traps....

You, though, you might be made of stronger stuff than me, in which case you’ll be glad to learn the Wadjet Eye-published point-and-click adventure from the makers of Primordia is out now. Here’s the trailer that made me go nope: Strangeland takes place in a nightmarish carnival in which a woman hurls herself down a well, and you set out looking for answers. You meet “jeering ravens, an eyeless scribe, a living furnace, a mismade mermaid” and chat and puzzle to progress in traditinal point-and-click style....

See? That’s a classic fantasy king right there. And a cheery pirate with strings of pearls and gems. And lots of chat about crystals and the four elements and prophecy and warriors of light. And absolutely no grim growling about ‘killing Chaos’. Yeah man, that’s some Final Fantasy alright. That does make it a bit jarring when you see murderous finishing moves but hey, what else would you expect from the studio behind Nioh, Ninja Gaiden, and Dead Or Alive?...

I’ve had my eye on Loop Hero for a little while - as have others in the RPS treehouse, it’s one of our most anticipated games for March - and it really is right up my alley. Over your loopy journeys, you’ll fight monsters and collect cards that let you alter a section of the loop. That could involve placing a building, enemy or changing the terrain. New terrain, for example, will let you find new monsters or things that might drop you something else helpful for your expedition....
