Since its announcement last May, Predator: Hunting Grounds has been rather reclusive - skulking, invisibly, skinning soldiers and learning how to emulate a child’s laughter. I assume, at least. To catch up - Predator: Hunting Grounds is a 4v1 asymmetrical deathmatch, wherein four tooled-out army men have to drop in and out of a dense South American combat zome without getting skinned alive by a 10-foot tall ghost. Human players get their pick of three different roles (of the final game’s four), from the lightly-armoured Scout or walking re-supply bin Support, to the Assault - your bog-standard bloke with gun....

Prison Architect was, the last time I played it, a fantastic game. It contains the satisfying construction and management of Theme Park and the dynamic, emergent behaviours of Dwarf Fortress. It also dealt with its heavy subject matter with appropriate but not suffocating seriousness. Is this praise still true after recent updates and DLCs? I’m not so sure, but I bet there remains a strong core. You can grab it for free from its Epic Games Store page....

That moment looks like the dashing and wall-running from Warframe, but it’s basically just superpowered free-running, so whatever. I love a good dash move, and doing that while tiptoeing on cliffs and trees looks great. There’s not a lot of other information to share. The game stars a young woman named Frey Holland, played by Charlie’s Angels actress Ella Balinska, who must use magical abilities to fight beasties in the world of Athia....

Crimson Tide is a Cyberpunk-esque city where mega-corporations reign supreme and nasty things occur. You happen to be a middle class salary man in this neon-drenched place, but also one who’s quite handy at dispatching horrible criminals when night falls. And that’s where the demo kicks off. You step out of your apartment, go to work, and somehow end up showering a train carriage with the guts of a gangster on your way back home....

And so, during the Steam Game Festival a little while back I gave the demo for Promesa a shot. It’s a walking simulator where you wander slowly through environments inspired by Argentinian and Italian architecture. These streets, and homes, and otherworldly places you visit are all figments of your character’s imagination as you, the grandchild, attempt to understand your grandfather’s experiences. If you need to escape reality for a bit, this here’s the ticket, folks....

The actual levels in Psychonauts 2 are more fantastical than anything I could conjure up here. There were many times playing it when I had to stop my 3D platforming and just look around in awe, taking in the still tableau of a little town made of hair, threatened by a huge tower of waves of blue locks wrapped with curlers. Or the juicy green landscape of a Yellow Submarine-esque 60s musical wonderland, every plant sprouting a crop of giant eyes....

Four long years after I was first excited by a potential hint of Plunkbikes (which sadly turned out to be decorative), Plunkbat’s developers finally added rideable bicycles in a November 2021 update. Found commonly on the outskirts of maps, they are a fast-ish and almost silent way to get around the battlefield. Murderhiking becomes murderbikepacking. These bicycles can be quite useful, especially if you don’t find a motor vehicle. I’ve nabbed kills by rolling up on people unheard, I’ve outpaced the blue ring of death, and I’ve dodged gunfire as I sped towards my destination....

Gamesradar points to PlayerIGN, a reliable source of PUBG secrets (they called the recent update’s plane crashes three weeks ago) that succinctly states: “PUBG wants to go free-to-play. They’re going to track player responses in a F2P week that’s happening next month.” The shadowy leaker also suggested that a previous free week was a similar test for a potential F2P do-over, but that the fan response to it wasn’t what was expected....

Golden Gun will take place on the recently tweaked Oregon map for a Secure Area match. You’ll have only one weapon: the Golden Gun. A single bullet from this magical sidearm will kill any opponent. The catch is that the dang thing only holds a single round. So make your shots count, because you’ll be stuck reloading if you don’t take down your enemy with the first shot. You won’t have any other weapons to work with in the Golden Gun mode but you can still deploy gadgets and use melee attacks....

This abomination comes from the paid Patreon of Marcos RC. It’s a simple model swap, so the sounds remain from the main game. Still, though. Ugh. It’s not his only creation, either. He’s also added in the Resident Evil 4 Merchant, and a Brazillian model in a banana hammock to the game. Replacing models is relatively pain-free. Though the two above are tied to the creator’s Patreon, this mod manager automates the downloading and installing process of other mods and models, which enables you to grab things like this fly swatter to take down the buzzing beasties that suffuse the air....

Check out this massive woman. The teaser only shows a few glimpses of the game, because it’s a trailer for a trailer. If you come back a week from now on January 21st at 2pm PST (10pm GMT) you’ll see more in the Resident Evil Showcase, including a new trailer for Resident Evil Village. VIIIage. Since it’s due to be a showcase for the whole series and not just Resident Evil Haml8, there’s hope it’ll also bring an update on the Netflix animated series Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, and maybe even the movie reboot....

Set the year after the events of Thimbleweed Park, the Mini-Adventure stars Dolores on a little holiday from her game development job, picking up part-time work taking photographs for the local newspaper. So off you go, checking in with the old gang, seeing what’s new, and snapping away. As part of Gilbert’s fiddling, this has a new UI too, which a straightforward right-click menu replacing ye olde wall o’ verbs....

As I’ve made abundantly clear ever since I joined RPS, battle royales are my jam. I’ll happily bulk out my Steam library with reams of half-baked ideas and clunky combat systems in the hopes of finding the next big time-sink for me and my squadmates to get lost in over the next several months. I fully expected Rocket Bot Royale to be left at the bottom of my most played games on Steam list after a few weeks, but after a few hours of play, I’m starting to think eventually it might arrive at the top....

The hack was made public by 2K Support’s account on Twitter, along with some advice to potentially affected customers. 2K Support recommend that anyone who receives a suspicious email appearing to be from them should reset their password and enable multi-factor authentication. The company also suggested running antivirus software, and checking your account to see if forwarding rules had been added or changed. The support account said that 2K will issue another notice when users can start interacting with emails from 2K’s help desk again....

Neowiz are not actually at PAX so there wasn’t anyone on the team to give us some behind-the-scenes info, but I got stuck into the demo for a solid 30 minutes, brawling with the game’s angry robot lads that roamed the city’s blood-washed cobbled streets. Overall, I had a great time with the demo. Yes, it is incredibly similar to Bloodborne in both its combat and environments but there are plenty of other elements that steer it away from FromSoftware’s horror-filled gothic RPG....

This is part of Patch 1.4, which also brings big changes to a whole bunch of cards and introduces the new ranked season. But I’m still thinking ‘bout Gauntlets. Gauntlets are only open from Friday through to Monday, “with each weekend featuring a single format from the Gauntlet rotation”. The first one kicked off today, and developers Riot Games say they’re treating the current, very simple one as a way to “test-drive the underlying tech”....

Rush Rally 3 isn’t all that serious, but it’s still on the wrong side of the tracks for me, I thought, before accidentally playing it for 3 hours. This is an excellent bundle of rally trials, challenges, and simple circuit racing with a cheerfully mid-2000s feel. I might prefer the messy nonsense of Trail Out, but if you value actual driving skill more highly, this is well worth your time....
