Unless you’ve not looked at a calendar for the past year, or have been stuck in some sort of hellish nether-realm betwixt life and death (the lockdown jokes write themselves, I know), you’ll know that FromSoftware’s next punishing RPG Elden Ring is out on Friday. It’s only February and yet we already have one of the most anticipated games of the year knocking on the door! To celebrate the newest addition to the Soulsborne family, we’re using this week to post lots of cool articles about FromSoftware’s lovely, grim, difficult games....

First up is Adrena-Line by Daniel Linssen. I do enjoy a Linssen game since I can always spot them at a glance. Something about the color palette always gives it away. Anyway, this one is a frantic spacial puzzle where you need to navigate your little box to a button within a time limit. Your box moves in a straight line until it hits a wall just like the inevitable ice puzzles that I remember in every Nintendo game of my childhood....

To start off with, the beta will now have character customisation, Torn Banner say, which looks plenty in-depth here in the open beta trailer. You’ve got battle scars to pick, gnarly bloody noses to sport, and choices for your armor and heraldry too. They also spend a good amount of time showing off the oh so many battle emotes and all the personality you can give your knight through the various voice lines available....

It does nothing drastic at this stage. Valve temper expectations in the documentation, noting that “We are now accepting a limited amount of games into the service as we continue to build features and server capacity for players. Kicking things off on Thursday October 8th, the RPS video squad will be putting together another of their always excellent Indies Uncovered streams. You’ll find the character creator over on Steam. It allows you to create your avatar for the full game, which you do by selecting from around a dozen preset characters and then swapping out their constituent parts via a menu of alternatives. There are no sliders or extrudable meshes, so you’re not able to create anything monstrous, but you can create a convincing extra from a Frozen movie by pick-and-mixing body shapes, hairstyles, eyes and ears and mouth shapes, and makeup....

That teaser trailer offers about as many details on the game as anything else. “We are so pleased and excited to bring this news to you, and we really can’t wait to reveal more details about what lies ahead,” Crytek CEO Avni Yerli said in today’s announcement. “Right now the game is in the early stages of development so it will be a while yet, but we wanted to bring you the news at this time as we are so hyped for the future, and to let you know that we will be listening to our community....

They put out the warning in a tweet, asking that folks “refrain from using files from unknown sources” until they can fix the issue. CDPR then shared more details in a statement sent to Eurogamer: The discovery of the vulnerability is credited to PixelRick, a Cyberpunk modder and one of the creators of the Cyberpunk Save Editor. He explained in a Reddit comment that the vulnerability would allow hackers to take “asset archives and save files” - normally non-executable files - and have them execute code on your machine at the point at which Cyberpunk loads said files....

They admit that even with the delay that staff will be working crunch. The delay also pushes back multiplayer, which has always been due after launch, until probably 2022 at earliest. Marvel’s Avengers is delayed Previously due in May, it’s now expected in September. Square Enix also delayed the PS4 debut of Final Fantasy VII Remake, which likely also delays the almost-inevitable PC release once its exclusivity period ends....
