Lost Ark is a very silly game, but not in the way it initially seems. For its first 15 hours or so, Smilegate’s ARPG is like someone described Lord of the Rings to the developers through a door, an overblown yet generic riff on Western fantasy tropes with overdesigned yet underwritten characters, all of whom talk about the game’s plainly ridiculous lore with the gravity of a neutron star. The game’s ignorance of its own absurdity is funny, but the story itself is not much fun....

Following the announcement, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics saw Avengers’ player count skyrocket from less than 1000 to a peak of over 10,000 during their All-Access weekend. The average player count throughout the weekend held at a little over 6000, showing signs of promise for the power-packed Marvel game. The spike is the largest the game has experienced since its release and with the War for Wakanda expansion around the corner, here’s hoping this newfound momentum helps to convince new and returning players to stay on board well after the new DLC drops....

On Twitter, the team said that the delay would be used “to make sure we are delivering the best possible experience for everyone,” also noting that it is “easily the biggest game we’ve ever made.” Fair enough! Video game development, so I hear, is hard. The delay was originally revealed in publisher Take Two’s financial report, which pinned it in fiscal 2023. The latest rumours come from VentureBeat, who shared rumours earlier this year too. They say they’d heard that EA would announce and launch Mass Effect: Legendary Edition in October, but people in the know have told them is due in early 2021. They claim they’ve heard the first game is a weak point of the new collection, in how it both plays and looks, and the devs are concerned players will be put off from playing through to the fancier sequels....

While the game is inspired a little bit by the old isometric Fallouts, Whalenought co-founder Hannah Williams told PCGamer it’s also influenced by 80s sci-fi and action films like Escape From New York and The Terminator. “There’s something wonderfully gritty, dark and campy about the way the future is portrayed in these films that really resonates with us,” Williams told PCG. “These low tech worlds are both awful and relatable at the same time, and while Mechjammer is more of a sci-fi setting, the world itself is analog and familiar....

They also say it’s trained on 60 thousand hours of speech, “which is hundreds of times larger than existing systems”. It’s not a surprising choice the developers have made to leave out the multiplayer. While banners have been kicking around in Bannerlord’s code for years, this is the first time they’ll be officially enabled for battle. You’ve been able to muck about modding in your own flags and shield designs for ages, as Sin noted not long after the game entered early access. TaleWorlds say the new banners will be equippable items that benefit formations that players and AI heroes lead into combat. Along with the banners, you’ll also have the option of using new crafting pieces with cloth attachments to give your weapons that sweet Claire’s Accessories vibe....

The Resident Evil show follows twins Jade Wesker (Tamara Smart) and Billie Wesker (Siena Agudong) across two timelines: present-day New Raccoon City and all over post-apocalyptic Earth in 2036. Back in 2018, Platinum Games revealed in an interview (translated by Gematsu) that there was still a final secret hiding in Nier: Automata that they wouldn’t reveal. Years later, it’s finally been uncovered by Lance McDonald who has managed to reverse engineer the input for a particularly handy command. It’s not a glitch, McDonald explains, but a proper cheat code programmed into the game. In the video above, McDonald explains that there is a precise location and sequence of buttons you’ll need to execute in order to pull the cheat off, along with some hints on how to do it successfully as it can be a bit tricky....

As the update name suggests, the Sentinel robo-enemies are a large focus. Version 1.8 adds four new types of Sentinel: Combat Drones well versed in murder, Repair Drones who help their pals, Summoner Drones who call in reinforcements, and honking great Hardframe battle mechs. Sentinel Drones should also be better at moving around the world, use a wider variety of weapons, and now deploy static energy shields. I dropped in on No Man’s Sky’s first expedition last month and found it to be a neat idea....

The first No More Heroes has Mr. Touchdown climbing the assassin ladder to become number one by taking on the ten killers above him. That includes a spandex-wearing super fella with a pelvis laser, an actual high schooler, and a grenade-wielding former model. You know, standard stuff.
