It’s been quite a while since we last heard anything about The Long Dark’s paid expansion, first announced back in spring. Now called Tales From The Far Territory, it’ll take you to some big-ass mountains on the game’s Great Bear Island. These peaks are known as the Far Range, “an imposing wall of rock that stands vigilant over Great Bear’s priceless resource riches”, according to Hinterland. “Over the decades, many have tried, few have succeeded to crack open the wealth within these rocks,” Hinterland’s founder Raphael van Lierop said in a new dev diary....

The Outlast Trials was originally announced a couple of years ago. Back then, Red Barrels shared that it was going to be set during the Cold War and will act as a prequel to both Outlast and Outlast 2. In the years since, a few different trailers have showed that Trials will still feature lots of limbs getting chopped off and evil doctors trying to brainwash patients, in classic Outlast style....

Mothered - A Role-playing Horror Game There you are, a poorly little girl named Liana, returning home after major surgery to find oh dear god who is this horrifying mannequin claiming to be my mother? I’ll be vague about this horror game, only explaining that it takes place over a week as you reacclimatise to home by chatting with mother, exploring, and doing little tasks. It’s a great experience, starting out striking and weird then revealing itself to be increasingly clever and terribly sad....

EA and Dice made a big deal of the game’s weather and I was like, “Yeah, it rains all the time here too, heh”, but you know what? The way these battlefields chop and change when storms roll in really do make a huge difference when you’re there with your boots on the ground. In my hands-on I played Conquest, a mode where you’ve got to capture various zones around the map....

“For this upgrade we collaborated with Netflix for some free DLC to add to the game,” CDPR announced near the end of their Witcher trivia segment. “So as an example you might be able to wear Geralt’s armor inspired by the Netflix series.” CDPR say they’ll have more info about the DLC in the future. Ah well that’s not a lot to go on, but I’ll not complain about more DLC for the eventual day I wander back to The Continent again....

That’s a great price for what Katharine calls a ‘stonkingly fast gaming CPU’ in her 5600X review. She’s using quite technical language there, so let me try to translate: this is the AMD CPU you should buy for gaming. It knocks previous Ryzen generations into cocked hat, even when compared against higher-tier chips like the 3700X and 3900X, and it also does well against Intel’s latest and greatest CPUs. Even compared to the likes of the 10900K and 11900K, it wins in many games and comes darn close in most of the others....

The bot is made by Suzanne Will, a level designer and environment artist who’s currently working on Blendo’s immersive sim Skin Deep. The account is masquerading as a “lost probe, drifting through forgotten dimensions”, slowly spinning and looking around as it appears in the skies above many maps from Half-Life and its engine kin. In Half-Life engine games, the sky beyond the 3D geometry of a level is a series of six low-resolution 2D images....

Have a gander at this newly-surfaced gameplay footage from the Pro Skater 1 and 2 remaster announced earlier this week, and see what I mean (via Kotaku). Granted, it’s not like any of these folks ever stopped skating, and when he’s not being mistaken for himself, the now 52-year-old Hawk is still pulling off 900s on the reg. Plus, to their credit, they’re largely wearing their age well - as I suppose is to be expected when you’re top-class professional athletes....

Toem definitely feels like playing a classic adventure game. It’s made up of small, connected areas for you to explore, full of goofy characters who all seem to need you to do something for them. Rather than pointing and clicking item puzzles though, Toem has you solve everything by pointing and snapping photos. The first main area that the demo has you play through is a forest surrounding a hotel....

Trek To Yomi chronicles the tale of a young samurai named Hiroki, whose village is raided by bandits when he’s only a ronin pup. Miraculously, he saves the day - hooray! Then time skips forward, and he has grown up, showcasing his newfound maturity with a defined jawline and fetching straw hat. The bandits swing by for round two, but this time it ends disastrously. The town is set ablaze, his beloved is nowhere to be found, and Hiroki himself is shanked through the ribs....

ESO’s Greymoor expansion is taking players back to Skyrim to solve a pesky problem of witches and vampires colluding in the north. I’ve gotten to play a bit of the chapter myself and Zenimax’s recreations of familiar Skyrim locations are nearly an uncanny valley experience. Dragon Bridge and Solitude feature in the early hours and are immediately recognizable to anyone who’s visited them in TESV recently. Aside from the new story and map zone, Zenimax have overhauled the vampire skill tree with some new abilities that make getting bitten more worth your while....

You can see the mods in action in this video by their creator: It’s actually four individual mods, all created by user Halfmillz. They are Neo (The One Suit Physics), which adds cybersaviour Neo and his flowy coat in place of Sifu’s aging protagonist; Agent Smith To All Enemies, which replaces every enemy in Sifu with Agent Smith; The Matrix Combat Sound Effects for movie-accurate whip and smack; and The Matrix reshade, which paints the screen green....

The original game had plenty of combat, but you were more likely to be slicing at sentient fruits and veg with a sword than firing off machineguns on your various quests. Turnip Boy Robs A Bank stars the same grinning root vegetable and seemingly the same irreverent tone and sentient foods, but it’s about delving into the “deep, dark depths” of the Botanical Bank, stealing money, and using that money to buy new weaponry....

The users are identified in the complaint only by their Twitch handles: CruzzControl and CreatineOverdose, who are believed to reside in the Netherlands and Austria, respectively. The complaint says that Twitch immediately took steps to ban both users and their network of accounts, but that the defendants were “undeterred.” CruzzControl is alleged to be “responsible for nearly 3,000 bot accounts associated with hate raids.” The full complaint, which was filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California, also alleges that the hate raids “were, in some cases, directed to streamers who identified themselves as racial minorities and/or members of the LGBTQ+ community,” and that they were organised via “the ‘hate raiding community’ through other gaming-related social media platforms” such as Discord and Steam....

The basic idea is that you’re stranded on a jungle planet full of industrial ruins, and have to fight through robots and huge animals in small groups, switching between several (kinda samey) swords as needed. It’s not really doing anything spectacular, but it’s enough of its own thing to feel like more than just a budget God Of Cries.

The big winner was Umurangi Generation by Origame Digital. The photography sci-fi game won the ‘Seumas McNally Grand Prize’ and the narrative prize at the IGF awards. Hades was also recognised as the game of the year at the GDC awards. The rest of the winners, and the whole darn ceremony, are below. The lovely, detailed, and dark Genesis Noir by Feral Cat Den was another twin winner. It won both ‘Excellence in Audio’ and ‘Excellence in Visual Art’ awards....

The PC port is being handled by Iron Galaxy, and will support 4K resolutions, ultrawide monitors, and come with a stack of graphics customisation options not in the original console releases. Those include settings for texture and model quality, anisotropic filtering, shadows, reflections and ambient occlusion. The games will also have a “reimagined UI” and remappable controls.
