If you haven’t heard of Yippee before, they predominantly work on licensed games for companies like Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and the BBC. They’ve also made a platformer series of their own, Chimpact, which is mostly for mobile but has jumped on PC too. The studio will now be working on a variety of Team17’s own projects, as well as original games from the company’s partners, and all in all the acquisition is a part of the company’s growth plan....

As a long time fan of Sega’s action adventure beat ‘em up series, I was lucky enough to give Yakuza: Like A Dragon a whirl for a few hours of preview, and it made me grin like a happy baby throughout - like those diaper-wearing yakuza, I suppose. Even if you’re unfamiliar with the series it’ll likely elicit a similar reaction, because you don’t need to be clued in on any previous happenings to enjoy it....

The Windows 11 preview build is affectionately titled Build 22000.51, and Windows Insiders can download it this very second. It contains many of the features shown off during the reveal, but is missing a few bits and pieces. However, Microsoft plan on adding more over the coming months. So what’s in the preview build? Well, you’ve got the rounded corners, multi-tasking “snap features”, and that centered taskbar. The game is a tactical turn-based military romp where you move infantry around to control a battlefield, with a sprinkling of “Zachtronics-style” puzzles to play in between fights. Now, this new update adds a multiplayer mode which lets you play one-off skirmish missions against AI or your Steam friends. You can play as either the normal timeline Americans or alternate universe Americans, - though if you want to be the latter you’ll need to complete the single-player campaign first....

Honestly, the one thing I hate most about existing ‘hidden’ loading screens today is all that slow crawling through tight passageways. The biggest culprits are third-person action games. Tomb Raider does it a lot, as does Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Final Fantasy VII Remake to name just a few. Honestly, the amount of time Cloud spends inching his way through the rubble of the Midgar slums or squeezing himself in between a fence and a parked Shinra van is mind-boggling, and I have no doubt that the eventual and inevitable PC version of VII’s shiny reimagining will do it too....

Work together to achieve greatness - Space Engineers Where else can four hapless space dweebs and their non-hapless robot butler come together to build a giant mechanical spider that would make Will Smith sweat with fear? Space Engineers, like all good sandbox multiplayer build ‘em ups, is about becoming greater than the sum of your parts. Even if those parts are a survey officer with space mumps and a security officer with an unhealthy fixation on dungeons....

The new game is Sokobond Express, a mashup of Sokobond and Cosmic Express, and you can see it and all of the above in the video below. I’m used to the best puzzle games coming in ASCII art packages, and only one in six deigning to add some sprites. Draknek’s work has becoming increasingly polished and beautiful, however, and I am here for the slickly presented video above. A Monster’s Expedition expansion is good news....

Season was first shown at The Game Awards back in 2020, and dated for a January 2023 release at the end of last year. Although the game shows sensitivity towards its diverse cast, as Alice Bee noted then, the devs working on the game had been going through a difficult period due to an investigation prompted by complaints about the behaviour of senior staff. Two years ago, the former creative director of Scavengers Studio was accused of sexual and verbal harassment by multiple staff working at the company....

According to Politico, the player behind fictional journalist Kasey Montagu is a member of a political roleplay group in Roblox called “nUSA”, having previously played the role of fictional Secretary of State. In order to become a member of actual political happenings, Montagu set up multiple social media accounts. They had a LinkedIn account and Twitter accounts for both White House Schedule and White House Pool Report (though both are now suspended)....

The console publishing rights to AeternoBlade 2 still appear to be held by PQube, although the game was published independently on PC by Corecell. PQube previously defended themselves in a statement issued to media after Corecell made their original accusations against the publisher, and you can read both in full here. However, Corecell have now responded to PQube’s defence in a statement issued to RPS and on Twitter. In it, Corecell deny that the console publishing rights to AeternoBlade 2 ever reverted to them, as PQube claimed....

Bloodlines takes place a step removed from the main story of the game, just after the opening attack on London, and just before its cell of hacktivists Dedsec is reactivated. Aiden and Wrench are both after a MacGuffin that will allow human minds to occupy robots, but I have found that broadly unimportant. The DLC is actually pretty smart as a thing: it has a slightly modified version of the upgrade system, it gives you the basic tutorial again under the reasonable expectation that this is going to be the first time a bunch of people have played in a while, and also Aiden is really good at shooting people....

When I was a kid, one of the few VHS tapes we had was a Thundercats one. The tape itself was pink, which was very exciting for me, so I watched it a lot, and I loved the cat people. And now I am an adult, I love games like Monster Hunter, where I can hammer giant creatures to death with special weapons. When I attended an online Q&A with the Crucible devs last week, one point no one thought to ask about was whether or not Crucible would have some sort of in-game voice chat. I guess everyone, including myself, just assumed it would have one - why on Earth would you release a team-based game without those sorts of communication features, right? But no, Crucible really has no in-game way for you to talk to your team, aside from a simple ping system....

First released in 2013, the first-person horror game is set in London at the turn of the 20th century and revolves around a great and terrible machine. Off you go, exploring, puzzling, and fleeing from oinkers. It ditches a few bits from Amnesia: The Dark Descent, like the sanity and inventory systems, which disappointed some fans but it’s decent as its own thing. Writing on the BioWare blog, studio director Christian Dailey dives into a number of ideas the team are playing with in regards to Javelins (yer big robots), builds, and skill trees. Apparently, a key piece of feedback around the game’s launch was that Anthem didn’t offer “satisfying Javelin Builds”, which has pushed the team to completely revamp the way they approach your RPG battlesuits. For starters, though, the entire loadout screen has been given an overhaul....
