The mod, which is free for anyone who owns Half-Life 2, makes the game playable from beginning to end. You can use your hands to swing your crowbar, to climb ladders, and to play catch with Dog. When you bend over to pick up the can a Combine soldier knocked to the floor, you’ll see a 3D hand floating in front of you as grab it, and even without Alyx’s gravity gloves there’s a generous ‘pickup’ distance for grabbing spilled weapons and ammo from the floor....

Also, look, this thing is impeccable. Clean, powerful shots trace across immaculate skyboxes, straight into the shining dome of your armoured clunkperson, with a frightening thud that is satisfying even in death. There are problems, of course, but most reside outside the actual shootouts, which are frenetic, zappy confrontations longtime Halo players will savour. Halo is so similar in its bulk from game to game that glancers and fairweather Spartans might not see an immediate difference....

In all fairness, 343 had kept their lips pretty sealed on Halo Infinite for a very long time prior to the sudden buzz around announcing The Banished as the antagonists and their big gameplay reveal during Xbox’s not-E3 showcase over the summer. That said, up until a few months ago, everyone had expected the next Halo game to be on their screens right now. Tucked at the very bottom of their latest community update, 343 say they know fans are waiting to hear more about Mister Master Chief’s further space adventures....

Some of the earliest examples of cheats were posted to Reddit less than a week after the multiplayer was released. In this clip, you can see the player we’re watching tracking enemy heads through walls, which I can tell you, with confidence, is definitely not a feature. More recent alleged cheating clips show some rather obvious aim-snapping and wall-hacking. The person in this one doesn’t even have their gun facing the right direction for half the kills they get, while this player has a sniper rifle so accurate they only need to aim at the wall next to someone’s head!...

Despite the game’s grim backdrop, it’s a joyful experience stacked with cracking combat and funny characters. The moreish roguelike hook is there, albeit with some early access hiccups to overcome. Give it some time and it could really shine, but whether it’ll get lost in the Steam release cycle before it even has a chance to fill out remains to be seen. You might be thinking it, but Have A Nice Death isn’t much like Hollow Knight, really....

The premise is kind of similar to recent hit Minit. The world is going to end in 30 seconds. Pretty intense. Half a minute to save the world from ruin? That doesn’t sound like it’d be worth trying. Thankfully, in Half Minute Hero the Time Goddess comes and helps you out, allowing you to pray (and pay) to start that half minute over. This doesn’t make the speedy aspect redundant though!...

I stopped bothering with Playne because it’s too much of a faff to boot up all the time, and because my hideous gamer chair does not inspire mental tranquillity. You’re also supposed to click your mouse button every time you have a thought, and for me that made it more difficult to deal with that tricky part of meditating where you admonish yourself for not doing it properly. You can just not click, of course....

I played Kiwami soon after I finished Yakuza: 0 (as is the right and proper way), and it felt like a step backwards. This isn’t to say that it isn’t good - far from it. Just don’t expect it to match the prequel’s impeccable, well, everything. Instead, I’d treat Yakuza: Kiwami like the important piece of video game history it is. This is where Yakuza started after all, and from here on out, you get to see how Kiryu and the gang evolve as you go from one, to two, and so on....

Besides, when you’ve already got one daughter being held ransom by her tyrannical husband whose hostile army are breathing down your neck, not to mention precious few resources to help deal with your own belligerent peasants, a bear cub seemed like the least of my worries in Brave At Night’s medieval management RPG Yes, Your Grace, so I thought, what the heck? Might as well add another potential disaster to the pile....

The first eight levels of marvellous eight-bit platformer Chuckie Egg are, in many ways, a villain’s origin story. Big Birdie, a duck with a chequered past that has resulted in her incarceration in the aforementioned cage, is forced to watch as a rotund gluttonous egg-sucker (the player) weaves and jumps from platform to platform, evades the blue guard-birds patrolling each level, and steals all of Big Birdie’s eggs before her very eyes....

Today, I’m biting the bullet. I’m gonna talk about something that makes me very sad to think about. It’s a game called Steel Circus, and last month the developers bit their own bullet, shut down the servers, and pulled the plug on their dying game. Which is such a gruelling shame, because Steel Circus was probably the most fun I’ve had in any competitive game since Rocket League. Steel Circus is a futuristic fast-paced game of 3v3 handball with superpowers....

Crystal Dynamics went digging in the Marvel back catalog for yer guy the Mental Organism Designed Only (for) Killing who debuted comics-side in the 60s. He and his company AIM want to eradicate inhumans and their dangerous abilities. To fight him off, you’ll have to gather the gang by completing various Hero Missions focused on each of the heroes. As an example, they showed off a Hero Mission for resident god of the group....

A preview of Hitman 3, comprising the first two levels, indicates that this is still very much the case. I did also play a mission in Dubai, set in a Hitman-universe version of the Burj Khalifa skyscraper....
