Bungie tweeted last night to announce the arrival of the new season saying: “Crash the simulation. Season Of The Splicer is here.” Unfortunately, this was a poor choice of words considering some players were experiencing game crashes on sign in. Others were being met with a “Honeydew” error, which stopped them from seeing any of the new stuff....
In-game concerts of course don’t have the physical presence of a live show if that’s what you’re truly missing this summer, but they have all seemed to play to the strengths of Fortnite’s game space. Instead of giant speakers that you can feel thumping in your chest, the Diplo concert featured Fortnite’s jump pads for folks to play around on, a bunch of laser lights, and some big hologram dancers around the various viewing platforms....

There is no context for this cameo. Billiam doesn’t feature as an NPC. In the 40-ish hours I spent playing the game, I had no reason to return to the amphitheatre. It makes no sense whatsoever and the only explanation I can come up with is that someone involved in the game really likes Billy Idol and just wanted him in their game. It’s the sort of random that I can respect, and I only wish the game had more....

On Tuesday, Embracer Group announced that they have acquired Shiver Entertainment and Spotfilm Networx, and entered into agreements to buy Dark Horse Media, Perfect World Entertainment, and animation studio DIGIC. Of the video game purchases, Perfect World are the biggest. Embracer aren’t buying the Chinese parent company, rather Perfect World Entertainment, the North American and European arms which include Perfect World Publishing and Cryptic Studios. Cryptic make the free-to-play games Champions Online, Neverwinter, and Star Trek Online, though their latest was a disaster....
I’m not referencing Steam for any other reason than it’s a handy source of public opinion, I swear. But for real, Bloons TD 6 has an “overwhelmingly positive” rating and is 23rd on the list of Steam’s top rated games. I’ve played it for around an hour and while tower defense isn’t really my thing, it does have a devlishly more-ish dripfeed of unlockable powers. I’d assume this was a precursor to evil microtransaction implementation if everybody didn’t seemingly like the game so much....

According to Massively, CCP owner Pearl Abyss formally announced Nova’s cancellation in their Q4 earnings report. CCP took to Reddit to elaborate, noting that the dream of an EVE Online FPS isn’t quite dead - it had simply grown beyond what Nova was meant to be. A “sci-fi multiplayer shooter” is still in development at CCP London, mind. In fact, that office has been moved over entirely to developing and exploring that concept....
