Blindboy has done plenty of this before with Red Dead Redemption 2, playing and mixing live songs while improvising lyrics about things going on around him in game. He does it quite often over on his Twitch channel. For those of us that don’t know him, Matt Cox explained during some of Blindboy’s RDR2 shenanigans this summer that he’s a podcaster and musician and “that Irish guy from the Rubberbandits who wears a bag on his head”....

“Yes! Dead Space will have New Game+ at launch that includes: Level 6 Advanced Suit, New Phantom Variant Necromorphs, Secret Ending,” the account tweeted. It’s not yet clear whether this secret ending that’s part of the New Game Plus is the same as the alternate ending mentioned in the leaked achievements, but we reckon it’s likely they’re probably linked in some way. The most immediate change from the 2008 original is that Isaac Clarke, space engineer extraordinaire, isn’t a silent protagonist anymore. He’s still a big brown lump of metal with a soft, squishy human being inside though, albeit with a substantially improved number of polygons sewn in. All auto rifles got big buffs this season, dragging them back from meta obscurity, and Hard Light got extra help because Bungie removed the wild screenshake that had made it downright unpleasant to use. It’s been in a really good place: 600rpm auto rifles are generally great right now; Hard Light had no damage falloff over long ranges; its shots bounce off surfaces and even pick up extra damage after bouncing; and it’s stable when firing....

For me, a lovely part of this crop is that, unlike some other festivals, it includes quite a few games I’d not yet heard of. Finding something new that looks lovely is always a treat....
If only there was as much personality to be found in every other aspect of this hybrid of first-person shooting and light strategy. Romer doesn’t roam alone, you see. You’re joined in your fight by fellow escapees from a sky prison, Doyle, Agnes and Coqui. You swoop about on your Gravcycle shooting enemy robots in first-person, while giving go-there, shoot-that commands to the small squad of on foot soldiers running around below you....
It’s a game to play with and explore at your own pace. You can go fast, if you want. You can swim at full speed through the whole thing, gun it to the waterfall connecting you to the next level. I don’t know why you would, but you can. I’m here to take it slow, drift around, swim circles and watch my gathered shoal of fish follow me, take in the scenery, find secret spots, and maybe complete a few tasks....
For starters, EA Play is essentially a rebrand of Origin Access. But, while EA and Valve’s breakup is pretty much over, Steam still isn’t quite getting the whole deal with EA Play, because there’s a Pro version of the service that you can only get on EA’s own platform, Origin, for now. In this impressive debut from Shanghai developers Pixpil, these humdrum slices of life are placed front and centre, forming much of the narrative backbone that drives the game forward. This is still a game that’s ultimately about saving the world from a mysterious and all-consuming miasma, but it’s also one that makes damn sure you know what you’re doing it all for - and that’s its striking cast of NPCs....

Battlestate Games addressed the question of a female player character option on Monday after internauts seeking an answer found a dodgy one in an interview from 2016. The Siege devs seem like a good shout for a new online multiplayer project, I just hope they try to make something a little different from what’s already out there. It can’t be easy trying to throw something new into a games space that’s bursting with hero and tactical shooters, I hope they can make one that stands out. The announcement post mentions this new game will be “based on a new IP”, so hopefully that means no Crucible 2, at least....
In fact I’d go so far as to say that it’s by far the most impressive Potter game I’ve played. The mod adds quests, wand spells, an inventory, and even broomstick flying. I was taken in by how obsessively detailed it is. It’s set up for you to learn spells and explore Potter’s world like any other student, but I’ve been running around the wizarding world with my eyes wide in wonder like a poor lost muggle....
