Well, Age Of Empires 3 was pretty great. It’s even got its own Definitive Edition, launched at the end of 2020, which does a lot to improve on the original build. But it’s always going to have something of an anchor around its neck, in that it was one of those sequels that attempted to fix something thoroughly unbroken. The sad thing, for me, is how many features of AoE3 were genuinely innovations on its predecessor’s....

That divisive art style I mentioned earlier? Yeah, it has the same effect as Wind Waker, in that it allows the visuals to hold up a heck of a lot better than a more gritty and realistic aesthetic. The result is somewhere between Okami and Ico, with the Prince moving like water through crumbling ruins and airy sand dunes. There’s very little combat in this Prince Of Persia, at least when compared to other games in the series....
It’s a very simple pitch, but it’s a very simple game. Four levels (a classic half-pipe, an empty pool, two connected bowls, and one humongous mega jump), no unlocks, all the moves just sliding from one to another without a cheatsheet of complex button presses printed down the screen. Schnepf says it’s about trying to “capture the incredible flow of half-pipe skateboarding”. Having never managed even a single ollie in all my life, this is probably the only way I’d be able to do that....

GamesBeat reporter Jeff Grubb originally shared the rumour during his Giant Bomb show on Thursday, saying that it was still “undecided” whether the game would be delayed. Bloomberg’s source reportedly confirmed to Jason Schreier that Forbdden West had been delayed into the “first quarter of 2022”. Neither Sony or developer Guerrilla Games have confirmed the delay. If it has been delayed, it wouldn’t be a surprise given several other delays of big budget games....

More seasonal update than sequel, 2018’s edition of the Codemasters drive ’em up doesn’t exactly stand out among its peers. It is, however, free, which is always a plus in my books. We didn’t really have much to say back when F1 2018 launched back in the day. Yes, it looked nicer, had some new tracks, and updated all the spreadsheets to keep the season true to life. But it also added some neat twists to the career mode, including options to act like a smug prick during telly interviews with Mass Effect-style dialogue trees....

The devs shared stats in blog post celebrating the birthday. These are across both games, I assume, but they are some good big numbers: I would’ve guessed a few percentage more to be Hunters. Not 50%, but maybe 41%. There are… so many Hunters around. I suppose stats might be skewed by being across years, and loads of players do have a character in each class anyway. I’m surprised to see parity between Titans and Warlocks too....
Prophecy is a playable vision of sort, an attempt to interpret the impending Darkness in a form we daft wizard corpses can understand: a space to shoot stuff and do sick hoverbike tricks. First, I’ll tell you what it’s probably not about. There’s Dr. Watts and Dr. Rosalene, whose work lets people revisit key moments in their life for a second time. According to the Steam page, though, that’s probably not what the game is about. Ooh, it’s already getting narratively tricky, and the game isn’t even out yet. There’s also Quincy, who attends a party in a secluded and fancy mansion and then visits the bathroom....
Not that we’ve been bereft of Cyberpunk content in the meantime. In fact, companies have been falling over themselves to bring us high quality neon products as official tie-ins to the game. Which is, in a way, extremely cyberpunk. But are the products cyberpunk? That’s the question.
