Oh hey look, here comes the first so-called “gameplay trailer” for Kingdoms Of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, which might look a fair bit like another World Of Warcraft-esque MMORPG but is actually a singleplayer game. That could be neat! So, it’s an action-focused RPG set in a big open fantasy world with quests and stabbing and loot aplenty and a kinda generic vibe? Seems like a game that one future time traveller’s review might call “generous but uninspired”....

It’s a trend taken to its limit by Disco Elysium, which trades traditional combat for sharp exchanges and insults. Still, the classical dungeon crawler lives on through Dark Souls, Diablo, and now a curious little auto-battler called Loop Hero. Developed by a small Russian indie studio called Four Quarters, Loop Hero has rapidly become a hit, trailing only the breakout survival hit Valheim on Steam’s bestseller lists....

DX11 doesn’t make Lost Ark look better in any other way, but a frame rate boost is a frame rate boost. Back on the DX9-only review build, equipping my test PC with a humble GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and running the Very High preset at 1080p produced a 73fps average, but on the public DX11 version this jumped to 87fps. That’s an extra 19% FPS, for free. Switching to my recommended settings of Very High with Indirect Shadows, Distortion Effect and Motion Blur all switched off, Lost Ark could also pump out an 114fps average on DX11....
