The primary ghost power that Morris makes use of is seeing inside stuff. As a ghost, floors and walls and such aren’t of consequence. Peering inside objects is like a moving cross section, like breaking a game and seeing inside your character’s face by accident. On purpose though, so it’s cute instead of horrifying. Hollow Ponds call it a sort of hidden object game where you take a look inside things and then take a step deeper to look inside things inside the original thing looking for clues....

I do like Ian Hitman’s jumpsuit flapping in the skyscraping breeze there. I’m sure the game has plenty of other ways to start the mission, mind, going by the previous two games. Hitman 3 is due to launch January 20th on the Epic Games Store. Yep, it’s a timed exclusive. It’ll also be on Xboxes, PlayStations, and Stadia. It’ll also be on Switch exclusively as through cloud gaming, which is curious....

In all the years I’d spent not playing Hitman, I’d assumed the games were dour, stealth-focused gunishment simulators with little to distinguish them. But they are not. As Brendy said in his review, each level in Hitman 3 is a “clockwork murder toy”: a world running to its own rules, which you are free to interfere with. They each have a start (a bald bloke showing up in a place), and a finish (the bald bloke leaving the place, once his targets are deadoes), but they leave everything in between down to the player’s whim....

One of the most eye-catching additions to the collection for me is a large colourful map that shows the plans for each of Hollow Knight’s areas. In a blog post celebrating the studio’s silver anniversary, CEO Ilari Kuittinen announced that Housemarque have gathered the whole band together for the studio’s “most ambitious and biggest game to date”. This means pressing pause on everything else, including ill-timed battle royale Stormdivers. Kuittinen isn’t willing to share much more about this mystery project for the time being. Expect to hear an announcement in the “coming months”. As much as I’d like them to pull a 180 on the whole “arcade is dead” angle, this secret project’s been in the works for about three years, with 80 people now attached to the game....

Chinatown Detective Agency started development in 2017 after the release of the studio’s first game Terroir, a winemaking tycoon game. In March 2020, the studio released a free alpha demo of Chinatown Detective Agency onto Itch.io, and successfully crowdfunded the full game on Kickstarter only a month later. The game is reminiscent of the point and click Carmen Sandiego games back in the 1980s, where the titular character would travel throughout the world to catch criminals and solve cases....

The challenges in the Da Vinci Event are split into two chapters that can both be completed at the same time, which differs from how Humankind’s earlier events worked. There are some neat little Leonardo-related things to aim for, like owning a biplane in the Early Modern era and triggering the Science end condition as the Venetians. Completing each of the challenges in the chapters pops some player symbols and decorations, but you’ll need to finish all six to cause Leonardo da Vinci to burst forth from the annals of history....

If you do like battle royale games, I think it already goes without saying that you should check Hyper Scape out. It’s set in virtual reality, which I like. The map’s a dense sci-fi city, with tall buildings and jump pads that make me itch whenever I’m stuck on the ground. The ground is for losers, and people will probably shoot you from above. There’s no enclosing ring of death, like you might be used to....

So I love games that feel like minatures, like Bad North, which I love for how small everything is, including the sound design for your tiny soldiers’ little marching feetsies. And so I love the little almost-alive dioramas of Tiny Lands. Tiny Lands is a 3D spot-the-difference game (on Steam now) where you’re spotting differences in a little snapshot of a world: a campsite where someone is in the middle of a barbecue, or a terrible portal to another world as a battle between good and evil is in mid sway....

Imogen has also already analysed the images to build a compelling argument that this will be set after Mass Effect: Andromeda, fourth and most maligned entry in the series. It makes sense: bring out a remaster of the ones everyone loved to cleanse the memory of Andromeda, the one a lot of people hated. That being said, I would also like to remind you all at this early juncture that Andromeda wasn’t even that bad....

It also reminded me of the bit at the start of terrifying children’s tale The Witches by Roald Dahl, where a little girl gets trapped inside a painting in her family’s house, where they watch her grow old and eventually die. So imagine a game that is basically entirely that. Surprise! It exists, and it’s called Summertime Madness, a first-person puzzle game where a sad artist living in 1940s Prague makes a deal with the devil....

In its original form, Inked was a puzzler about a samurai searching for his lost lover while using an ink pen to solve puzzles. Sin played it as part of Unknown Pleasures back in 2018. “It helps that the puzzles are, well, fine,” she said. “They’re not particularly difficult (a plus for me, and anyone else who tends to respond to getting stuck by just playing something else), but they’re paced alright, and though it might seem shallow, the understated music and very attractive art are a reward in themselves....

It’s a lot like the kind of game you’d find in a Jackbox Party Pack, though this one is a standalone thing developed and published by Wide Right Interactive (who previously made the bullet hell sidescroller, Freedom Finger). Like Jackbox, all players need to be watching What The Dub on a main screen, while everyone uses their own devices to play. The game takes strange little clips from “hilariously awful B-movies, woefully outdated PSAs, and bizarre industrial films”, then chops out a part of the audio and challenges players to come up with something funny to replace it with....

In the newest Mysteries Unknown video (following after that one about the Vikendi dino park) Frakes asks “what if the good didn’t have to die at all?” to which I say the good don’t die. The good win chicken dinners. Anyhow, apparently the good won’t die young, or at all, thanks to the fountain of youth. The mystery leads to the plateau of Paramo in the Andes mountains, the site of a mysterious city where people never grew old....

It also may also, arguably, be the first RTS I’ve ever played that works best on a controller. But even if I was never an Age Of Empires kid, the genre touchstones are immediately present. But like Warcraft 3 (a game I’m far more familiar with), I’m immediately building houses and workers to gather food, wood and gold, slowly increasing my population as I gain access to new buildings and units....
