The 1.4 update that ConcernedApe referred to as the “everything update” arrived for PC players just three months ago and was true to its name. The giant content update really did touch just about every part of the game with either entirely new features, story, or quality of life changes. You can have fish ponds on your farm now, making an angler’s career even more viable. Spouses got new cutscene events for 14-heart relationship levels (never thought you could raise the level cap on love, eh?...

Here’s the video, featuring game director Todd Howard, design director Emil Pagliarulo, lead quest designer Will Shen, and lead artist Istvan Pely. Starfield is Bethesda’s first new universe in forever, but a lot of the chat in the video is about returning to some older ideas. “A lot of us have been doing this for a long time together,” says Howard. “It’s nice with Starfield to go back to some things we didn’t do: the backgrounds, the traits, the defining your character, all those stats....

Valve outlined the news in a post on the Steamworks blog. “The addition of a Spring Sale was a popular request from our developer and publisher community,” reads the post. “It will allow us to create more space between our four major seasonal sales and provide more opportunities throughout the year for developers to expand and execute their discounting calendar.” The first spring sale will happen next year from March 16th to March 23rd....

“Like RimWorld”, I thought to myself upon hearing the pre-demo pitch, and subsequently wrote in my notes four separate times before ceasing to bother. If only mere words could convey just how much “like RimWorld” Stranded: Alien Dawn is – other 3D-ified clones exist, like last year’s Going Medieval, but here, even the exact spaceship-wrecking premise matches that of Ludeon Studios’ seminal survival sim. That said, if you’re going to crib from a sci-fi subsistence-‘em-up… I mean it might as well be from RimWorld, right?...

TABS lets you construct armies of vikings, cavemen, animals and fantasy creatures, and then watch them have a big, dumb, physicsy rumble. You can try to steer your side to victory, or take control of a particular unit and join the fray, but it’s just as fun to sit back and watch the chaos as a pure spectator. It left early access back in April after a couple of years, and it’s the kind of game I’d happy recommend to almost anyone....

Taur attempts to refine your typical tower defence scenario, borrowing ideas from strategy games like Total Annihilation and XCOM and reducing it down so individual matches last minutes rather than hours. It’s a spectacular and surprisingly clever little game, although sadly its best ideas are also the least successful. Taur’s action centres around an interstellar war between two races of alien robots. One race, the Taurans, is on the brink of being annihilated by the evil Imperion....

I quite how the stream approached tech. It introduced some fairly basic concepts, complete with good demonstrations, and explained how they’re using it. Here’s the section on sound occlusion: I particularly enjoyed the section introducing the remake’s A.L.I.V.E. system (a convoluted backronym), which puts a lot more care and attention into making Isaac’s breathing, heart rate, grunting, and dialogue fit his physical and mental state. He even has different reads on dialogue for when he’s fatigued or injured....

While The Division 1 and 2 were set in New York and Washington D.C., Heartland shifts the action to a small, fictional town called Silver Creek in “heartland” America. The trailer above shows that small town alongside the fields that surround it. There’s mention of needing to defend the town from various factions, a glimpse of a character possibly evacuating via helicopter, and some hiding behind low cover. It’s hard to glean much else from the video, even with the developer narration over the top....
